A busy weekend awaits across the local non-league scene. Tom Tonks is hoping his famous long throw can cause plenty of chaos as Stafford Rangers launch their promotion push this weekend.The midfielder is back at Marston Road after starring for Tamworth during their memorable FA Cup run, with his throw-in becoming an online and television sensation and earning millions of views.Now back in Stafford, Tonks is hoping his trademark weapon can help Rangers make a flying start to their Northern One West campaign, which begins at Vauxhall Motors tomorrow.“I just hope it causes a little bit of chaos and eventually leads to some goals, because goals win games of football,” Tonks said.“If my throwing can do that, I say that everywhere I go, then we’ll use it as much as we can.Tom Tonks in action for Stafford Rangers during pre-season. Pic: Pete Wideman | Pete Wideman“But there are people trying to stop us from doing it and it’s not so much of a secret anymore, so, I just hope we’ve got some boys that want to head them in.”The country may be experiencing a prolonged spell of dry weather, but there will still be towels scattered around Marston Road for Tonks to use as he prepares to launch his trademark throws into the box.The club’s American investors have led an ambitious rebuild this summer as they look to return to step three of non-league football.Rangers enjoyed a blistering start to the campaign with a 5-0 FA Cup win over Tividale last weekend and will now look to carry that scoring form into the new league season.“Stafford is a little bit of a sleeping joint in non-league,” Tonks added. “Hopefully I can play my part in trying to get the club back to where they need to be.
